Terms of use
These terms apply to everyone who uses Caribbean Mosaic: visitors, account holders, CariFLAGS affiliates and people who send in resources. Please read them with our Privacy notice.
Last updated 31 October 2026.
The short version
- The library is free to use for research, education and advocacy. It is not for resale.
- Each resource belongs to its authors or publisher. Follow the copyright and licence shown with it, and cite it.
- Members-only and view-only resources are for your own use. Don’t share, copy or download them beyond what these terms allow.
- Never use the library to identify, expose, harass or harm anyone.
- If you send in a resource, you confirm you have the right to share it.
- The full terms below are what count.
Who we are
Caribbean Mosaic is run by the Caribbean Forum for Liberation and Acceptance of Genders and Sexualities (CariFLAGS) [full legal name, registration number and registered address to confirm]. In these terms, “we”, “us” and “our” mean CariFLAGS. “You” means the person using the site, or the organisation you use it for.
Agreeing to these terms
By using the site, including browsing, searching, reading or downloading, you agree to these terms. When you create an account or send in a resource, you agree to them again, together with the parts that apply to account holders, affiliates and contributors. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.
If you use the site for an organisation, you confirm that you are allowed to accept these terms for it.
These terms have four parts: Part A applies to everyone, Part B to account holders, Part C to CariFLAGS affiliates and Part D to contributors. The general terms at the end apply to all of them.
Part A. Using the library
You may search the library, read resources and download open-access resources free of charge for personal, educational, research, advocacy, policy and other non-commercial purposes.
You may share links to any page on the site. You may share an open-access resource itself only as its licence allows.
Who owns the resources
The resources in the library belong to their authors, publishers or other rights holders, not to CariFLAGS. Each resource shows the copyright and licence that came with it. You must follow that licence. We can’t give you any rights the rights holder hasn’t given.
Where a resource says “All rights reserved”, you may use it only as the law allows without permission, for example fair dealing for research, private study, criticism, review or news reporting. For anything more, ask the rights holder.
When you use a resource, cite it. Each resource page shows a suggested citation.
Our own content
The site’s design, text, the Caribbean Mosaic name and mosaic mark, and the CariFLAGS name and logo belong to CariFLAGS. You may quote short passages of our own text with credit. Don’t use our names or logos in a way that suggests we endorse you, your organisation or your work.
What you must not do
You must not:
- use the site, or anything in it, to identify, expose, out, threaten, harass, discriminate against or otherwise harm any person or group;
- share, publish, sell or send members-only or view-only resources to anyone, or post them anywhere online;
- get around any access control, for example by using someone else’s account, sharing your own, downloading or recording view-only resources, or trying to reach files directly;
- copy the library in bulk, or use bots, scrapers or other automated tools to search, download or collect content, apart from ordinary search-engine indexing of public pages;
- use resources or other content from the site to train or improve machine-learning or AI systems, unless the resource’s licence allows it;
- sell resources, or charge for access to them;
- remove or change copyright notices, licences, author names or citations;
- present a resource, or your own work, as the view of CariFLAGS or of an author when it isn’t;
- upload anything harmful, such as viruses, or anything that interferes with the site or other people’s use of it;
- use the site for anything unlawful.
Your safety
The library deals with sexual orientation, gender identity, sex characteristics and human rights. Some resources describe violence, discrimination or other distressing experiences. In some countries, laws or attitudes can put people at risk because of these subjects.
Think about who can see your screen, your device, your downloads and your email before you use the site or subscribe. We protect what we hold, as our Privacy notice explains, but we can’t control your device, your network or your email provider.
Accuracy and views
Resources are provided for information. The views in them are their authors’, not necessarily CariFLAGS’. Including a resource is not an endorsement of it.
Nothing on the site is legal, medical or other professional advice. Get advice that fits your situation before acting on anything you read here.
We may correct, update, move, change who can see, or remove any resource or page at any time, without notice.
Links and videos
Some resources link to other websites or play videos hosted elsewhere, such as YouTube or Vimeo. Those sites have their own terms and privacy policies, and we are not responsible for them or their content.
Part B. Your account
An account lets you open members-only and view-only resources once the library team approves you.
- Give accurate information when you sign up, and keep it up to date.
- We decide who is approved, and at what level. We don’t have to give a reason.
- An account is for one person. Don’t share your password or let anyone else use your account.
- Keep your password safe and tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account.
- You are responsible for what happens in your account, unless it happened because of our failure.
- You must be [18] or older to create an account. [CariFLAGS to confirm the minimum age.]
Members-only and view-only resources
Some rights holders share their work with the library on condition that only approved members see it. Breaking these rules can harm them and the library, and may end your access.
- Members-only resources are for your own research, education and advocacy work. You may download them for that use. Don’t send them to anyone, post them online or share links that let others reach them.
- View-only resources may only be read on screen, on this site. Don’t download, copy, print, screenshot, photograph or record them, except for short quotations the law allows, with a citation.
To protect these resources, we record which members download or read them, and when. Only the library’s administrators can see this. Our Privacy notice explains what we keep and for how long.
Suspending or closing an account
We may suspend, limit or close an account, and remove its access, if we believe it has broken these terms, puts anyone at risk, or is no longer needed, or if a rights holder asks us to limit access. Where it is safe and lawful, we’ll tell you why.
You can ask us to delete your account at any time from Your account. What happens to your information is explained in our Privacy notice.
Part C. CariFLAGS affiliates
An affiliate is an account holder who tells us they are connected to CariFLAGS, for example through a member organisation, the board, staff or a partner. We may check this, and remove the affiliation if we can’t confirm it. These terms apply to affiliates in addition to Parts A and B.
- Some resources may be shared only with affiliates. Treat them as confidential within the CariFLAGS network, and don’t share them outside it without our written permission.
- Don’t speak or publish on behalf of CariFLAGS, or present your use of the library as CariFLAGS’ work, unless CariFLAGS has authorised it.
- Follow CariFLAGS’ own policies that apply to you [code of conduct and safeguarding policies to confirm].
- Your affiliation is shown on your account and seen only by the library’s administrators. We may remove it, or change your access, when your connection with CariFLAGS ends.
- Your duty to keep affiliate-only resources confidential continues after your affiliation or account ends.
Part D. Sending in a resource
When you send a resource to the library, you confirm that:
- you own it, or have the permission of everyone who does to share it with the library on these terms;
- it does not break anyone’s copyright or other rights, a confidentiality agreement, or the law;
- it does not identify any person, for example by name, photo or location, in a way that could put them at risk, unless they have agreed;
- the details you give about it are accurate.
You keep ownership of your resource. You give CariFLAGS a free, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to store, copy, convert, catalogue, describe, make covers and previews of, display and distribute it on the site at the access level we set, and to keep a record copy. You can ask us to remove it at any time, and we will, though copies people downloaded before then are outside our control.
We decide whether to publish a resource, at what access level, and how it is described. We may edit its title, summary and details, decline it, or remove it later. We don’t pay for resources.
Copyright complaints and takedown
If you believe something on the site breaks your rights, puts someone at risk, or should not be public, use Report a problem on the resource’s page, or email us at [email address] with a link to it, why you are concerned and how to contact you. We will restrict access while we look into it and tell you what we decide. See also Copyright and takedown.
No guarantees
The site and its content are provided “as is” and “as available”. As far as the law allows, we make no promises that the site will always be available, uninterrupted, secure or free of errors, or that any resource is accurate, complete or up to date.
Limiting our liability
As far as the law allows, CariFLAGS, its member organisations, staff and volunteers are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site or of any resource, including indirect or consequential loss, loss of data, loss of opportunity or harm to reputation. This includes loss caused by third-party sites, by content written by others, or by access to your account that we could not reasonably prevent.
As far as the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to US$100.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
If you break these terms
As far as the law allows, you agree to cover CariFLAGS’ reasonable losses and costs, including legal costs, from any claim that arises because you broke these terms, for example by sharing a members-only resource or by sending in a resource you had no right to share.
Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. We will show the date of the latest version at the top of this page, and email account holders about significant changes before they take effect. If you keep using the site after a change, the new terms apply. If you don’t agree, stop using the site and close your account.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of [country where CariFLAGS is registered]. Any dispute will be dealt with by the courts of [that country], unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring it there. Before going to court, please contact us so we can try to resolve it.
If you live somewhere with consumer or data protection rights that cannot be removed by agreement, these terms do not take them away.
General
- These terms, our Privacy notice and our Copyright and takedown page are the whole agreement between you and us about the site.
- If a court finds part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies.
- If we don’t enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later.
- We may transfer the site and these terms to another organisation that takes over the library, and will tell account holders if we do. You can’t transfer your rights under these terms.
- Only you and CariFLAGS have rights under these terms.
